Kit Downes
Kit Downes was born on May 26, 1986 and becomes one of the greatest Jazz talents of the past decade. He made his debut with ECM when he played on Thomas Strønen's LP Time is an blind guide. Kit strikes interesting paths by using the organ within his Jazz compositions.
Together with Tom Challenger (tenor saxophone), Lucy Railton (Chello), Stian Westerhus (guitar) and Sebastian Rochford (drums), he makes music with a free spirit and challenging compositions.
Dreamlife or Debris
Dreamlife of Debris was recorded in November 2018 at St. Paul's Hall, University of Huddersfield and St. John the Baptist, Snape. With the exception of M7, they are composites by Kit Downes. M7 was composed by Ruth Goller (the wife of Kit). He composed Blackeye with Tom Challenger. The combination of these instruments in a Jazz arrangement makes the LP very interesting for the enthusiast.
Rating
Recognizable as an ECM recording with its own spatiality. Well distinguishable instrument and a clear placement. The organ on Sunflower and M7 is quite deep into the bass. The combination of percussion and organ on Blackeye is a brilliant find.
