Duke Ellington and Ray Brown
Two jazz mastodons. Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington, born April 29, 1899, was an American jazz pianist, composer and leader of his famous Duke Ellington jazz orchestra. Ray Brown born October 13, 1926 as Raymond Matthews Brown was an American jazz bassist.
This one's for Blanton
As Ray Brown himself indicates, the two reasons for playing double bass were Duke Ellington and Jimmy Blanton. Duke plays on this LP dedicated to Jimmy Blanton. That explains the title. Side 1 contains 5 titles and Site 2 are four "movements" from Fragmented Suite for Piano and Bass.
The original recording is from 1973. Produced by Norman Granz, 1975, Pablo Records.
Rating
Analogue Productions has done everything they can to make this LP a top product.
Original Master Tapes, 180 gram vinyl, pressed at the best pressing plants, and only 1,000 LPs per stamper. Site 1 is good, but this quality can certainly be heard on site 2. Apart from the great music of these two giants, an excellent recording and quality pressing.
